1. We will only fit you if you have been cleared by your Pointe teacher, and on some occasions, a Dance Physio.
There is a certain level of strength and technique training that is required to be En Pointe. If you have not met this requirement, it could result in serious and long term injuries.
2. You might not be able to get the same pair of Pointe Shoes as your friend.
Everyone is different, so it makes sense that not everyone will end up with the same pair of pointe shoes. There is no ‘right’ shoe for your first pair, only what makes you feel comfortable and supported. Every foot is different, and you might be at a different strength level to your peers. It can even come down to toe shape. Every brand that we stock makes a variety of styles, and each style fits, feels and looks different for every person. Always remember, you will do your best work, when your shoe fits well and feels supportive and comfortable.
3. You may not walk out of the shop with your Pointe Shoes.
We will always make sure that you are wearing the best shoe possible in your class. Your wellbeing is our number one priority. This means if your size is out of stock, or we believe you would benefit from a shoe we don’t normally stock, or a width we don’t have, we will always make sure it is ordered in as soon as possible. This means you may walk away from your first fitting without a pair, BUT, we will do everything we can to make sure you DO get the perfect pair.
4. Accessories
Pointe shoe Accessories can be an absolute life saver (or toe saver!) in your pointe shoes. We stock a wide range of accessories from toe pads, spacers, toe wrap, ribbon, elastic, lambs wool and the list goes on. We will always advise what we think will be best for you and your feet, and we will take the time to try different shoes with different accessories to see what you believe is the best fit.
5. Thick Toe Pads are not always best for first time wearers.
While thick gel toe pads work for a lot of first time wearers, it isn’t always the best option for everyone. Everyone’s toe shapes and spacing is different, and depending on the shoe you prefer, it may not benefit your feet to have a thick toe pad. Some people will end up with a thinner gel toe pad, or a toe pad without gel at all. Again, it is important to remember that everyone is different, and will feel differently in everything that they try on.
6. Looks aren't everything.
While the look of the shoe might seem like it is the most pressing matter, it is not the most important element in choosing your Pointe Shoe. The number one part to focus on will always be comfort and support, and the way you feel in the shoe. If your shoe feels wrong, but looks nice, you could end up with injuries and a wasted pair of Pointe Shoes. We will always do our best to balance the choice of the feel, fit and look of your shoe, to get your Perfect Pair!
7. Always show your teacher your new pair of Pointe Shoes BEFORE sewing or wearing them.
We always ask that you check with your teacher to make sure they are happy with the fit and look of your shoe before you start to wear them. If you have worn them, sewn ribbons and elastics or written your name in them, unfortunately we will be unable to re-fit them.
8. Please make an appointment for your fitting.
We will always do our best to accomodate walk in Pointe Shoe fittings, however, sometimes this isn't possible. We ask that you please make an appointment for your fitting, especially First Pairs, as they can take up to an hour. We strive to provide the best possible customer service and fit, and we want to ensure that you have enough time allotted to your fitting, and that there is a fitter available for you.
