Time For Tea

As a dancer we must stay healthy inside out. Tea is a delicious warm drink that has many health benefits.

Why are there different types of tea?

All tea come from the same plant; camellia sinensis. The type of tea depends completely on the way the leaves are handled after harvesting. Unique colours and flavours are given to the same plant by the various processing methods.

Five healthy teas you should be drinking:

Green tea contains catechin, polyphenols and other important antioxidants. It can lower triglyceride levels, blood pressure and cholesterol. It also strengthens our immune system and helps to fight tooth decay.

Ginger tea acts as a stimulant which can increase our energy. It works as an anti-inflammatory reducing swelling and muscle soreness. It also helps with digestion of food and to avoid nausea.

Peppermint tea is made with the herb peppermint. It can strengthen our immune system. It reduces nausea, vomiting or motion sickness. It’s also great for mild coughs, clearing a blocked nose, or mild to chronic aches and pains.

Chamomile tea is made from flowers. It’s a calming, gentle, sedative tea…which means it will make you really sleepy. It helps to reduce insomnia, stress and anxiety, as well as, digesting food.

Lavender tea is a medicinal herb tea. It helps with coughs, asthma, bronchitis and fevers. Wounds, cuts, sores and ulcers can also be healed using lavender tea.

As we move into these colder months, tea is the perfect decision for before and after dance class.
